Hugh Klemme Parker

Hugh Klemme Parker was born on April 11, 1894 in Fayette, Iowa. At that time his father James Donaldson Parker was 26 and his mother Nellie Klemme was 23. He married Elizabeth Margaret Buchanan on September 13, 1930 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Hugh graduated from Upper Iowa University in 1916 and taught at West Union High School from 1916-1917. He became involved in the Chemical Warfare research Battalion between 1917-1919. Hugh obtained his PhD in chemistry from Johns Hopkins in 1921. He then worked as a research chemist at Wallace & Tiernan in Bellevue, N.J. His main field of interest was flour chemistry and was the Technical Director of the “Agene Process” in Europe between 1923-1930. He also was the Assistant Director of Novadel-Agene Corporation from 1930-1954 and in 1954 he became the Director of the Flour Research Laboratory before retiring in 1959.

Hugh died on September 11, 1974 in Montclair, New Jersey at the age of 80 and was buried in Fayette, Iowa.
